The Winemaker

The Winemaker

Meet  Joel Page, Winemaker at Redgate Wines

Upon completion of his viticulture and oenology studies at Curtin University in 1999, Joel developed a fascination for the wine styles of the world.

This led him on a 10 year journey of travel and adventure to pursue various cultural wine making and viticultural techniques around the world. His young life and motivation to experience the world of wine making also allowed him to combine his passion as a “waterman” and as an ambitious “mountaineer”.
His widespread journey encompassed winemaking as far as Washington State USA to the Hunter Valley in New South Wales.
His passion for wine, land, and the ocean is what drew Joel to Margaret River, a region close to his own heart. During this time he has developed hands on experience in viticulture, wine making and more recently sales and tourism over such an expansive wine and food region of Western Australia.

His Margaret River and South West of Western Australia winery involvement spans across prolific produces such as Howard Park (Denmark), Leeuwin Estate and Chateau Xanadu (Margaret River) and most recently at Redgate (Margaret River).

Joel’s winemaking vision at Redgate is to produce premium fruit driven, elegant styles of white and red wine that express the true characters of the Redgate Vineyard.

“This small vineyard has a real sense of place about it. I try to capture the essence of this.”

“There is a cultural wealth associated with Australian winemaking which is yet to be fully embraced. The history, the techniques, the science, the passion and the people all play a part in its creation.”

After visiting Redgate wines, guests take with them not only our wines but also a part of our creation which has been designed for them to share with family and friends as a communicative tool of expression. Margaret River is a world class wine region and Joel feels particularly privileged to be making wine and being part of its culture.
